We know the rhythm all too well.
A flight boards at 7:20 a.m. and closes its doors at 7:45. I got to the airport late, hopped off the train at 7:30, rushed through TSA in five minutes, and had only four minutes to get to my gate. Then my group was called while I was still gasping for air.
The thrill. Will I ever mature enough to get to the airport on time? Who knows, but we made it. My sister, had a 24-hour layover in Miami, so I tagged along. I hadn't been to Miami in almost seven years.
Preparing for this trip was hectic. I tried to do my hair and didn't like it. Waking up late for the flight was the cherry on top of the anxiety. But for some weird reason, I knew I'd be good.
I wanted to get away, and Miami provided that. My sister and I have been spending a lot of time together since I moved back to the DMV, and I love that we get to travel together, too.
Honestly, because I was so late (and thought I wouldn’t make my flight), I even considered rerouting to somewhere I've always wanted to go, like Savannah, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; or Tennessee. Feeling open-handed about the trip, I think, is what made me make it on this flight.
The quick lesson for me was to stay attuned to my emotions and visceral reactions, while also staying open to what can happen when my plans don't go as expected. It may just work out anyway, and better.
The hotel wallpaper solidified my love for unique art and wallpaper. The art, customer service, and overall aesthetic were perfect. The FIFA Fan Fest for the Brazil game was happening at the same time. Perfect timing.
We put our bags down and headed straight for the design district. Walking through the streets browsing in and out of stores like Golden Goose and Kith, felt like a fever dream.
Moral of the story: take that trip. Enjoy the new views. Stay open to pivoting, even when you don't have to.
Pictured below are some things we did & places we stayed while there. Love, Miami.
Would I go back to Miami?! Yes, the answer is yes.
Take that trip.
Wear your clothes.
Some things can absolutely be overrated. Choose wisely.
